5 Ways to Be More Daring in 2013

SONY DSCThe ticket to an extraordinary life is to increase the number of daring actions we are willing to take. If you only set one New Year’s resolution this year, make it to be more daring.

I’m not talking about jumping out of air planes or eating slugs, although if that’s what does it for you, be my guest… I’m talking about the mental and emotional risks that lead to more fulfillment and happiness.

Below are 5 daring ways to create a happier, more fulfilled life.

Do something outside your “normal.” It’s easy to get stuck in routine, but when you break it up, your life will expand with richness and become more fulfilling. Go for a walk with your hubby instead of spending another night staring at the television, hike a mountain instead of running on a treadmill, make your lunch instead of buying it…the possibilities are only limited by your imagination!

Speak up. You are responsible for your experience in any given situation. Instead of quietly becoming more and more pissed off when something’s not going the way you’d like, speak up and ask for what you need! It may feel scary, but it’s worth it when you consider the resentment you’ll carry with you otherwise!

Blast the world with love! Dare yourself to be extra friendly to loved ones and strangers.Tell the barista that they made the best drink you’ve ever tasted, call your mom and tell her “I love you” if it’s not something you usually say, leave a flower on a stranger’s car. Dare yourself to blast the world with love and watch how your life lights up!

Be the chooser. Instead of waiting around for others to call the shots (your boss to give you that promotion, your husband to initiate some hot new sex move, your girlfriend to invite you out for coffee), be the one to initiate the things you want! Why put your happiness in someone else’s hands?

Get comfortable with fear. The major difference between leading a daring life and a mundane life is the ability to feel fear but take action anyway. Fear will never go away, so we better decide how we want to relate to it. Are we going to let fear paralyze us and keep us playing small, or are we going to breathe into it, gather our support team and plow forward? I choose the latter, what about you?
